Default Mechwarrior 5

Hey ya'll,

Just wanted to point out that Pirhana studios, the same place that created need for speed shift and transformers 2 is creating the new Mechwarrior game. I didn't realize this until I saw an article on it on pc.ign.com the other day. Do a search on it and tell me what you think- I am hoping they make this game awesome so we can revise some mech warfare around here!

Hope everyone is well

I'm not sure if this project will ever get off the ground. I only see 2 articles on it. One that announces the trailer, the 2nd says Mechwarrior 5 runs into Legal troubles.

Anyways, it could be fun, but where're the tanks? What am I to pilot?

There's a workable MW game off of the crysus engine... They have flying units and such that would be like the "tank" role. Then again the absence of shields in MW means that pretty much everybody is a Tank lol.

here's a link.

I played MW: LL over last weekend. While it definitely has potential, there are enough glaring issues that make it practically unplayable.

Just off the top of my head:

1) Respawning doesn't work properly on some maps. If I want to respawn at the same place as last time, I have to go into the map selection, select a spawn point other than the one I want to spawn at, then quickly select my original spawn point.

2) I don't know if it's the servers, but I've tried numerous, and I've never seen a server where the jumpjets work properly. Almost every time I see a mech jumpjet, it teleports across the map. BAs don't seem to have this same problem.

3) Sync issues. Not lag, but people being in places where they're not supposed to be. They show on my screen in one place, yet the server thinks they're somewhere else.

4) I've been killed too many times getting into a powered off mech, it's ridiculous. If you try to get in at certain angles, the mech crushes you.... even though it's powered off. I'm guessing the game is powering the mech on before I get into the cockpit, and then the game things the mech is smashing into me, so I die.

5) Sound doesn't work. Sound effects not going off at the right time, not going off at all. I'll hit my jumpjets, and I'll hear the sound... I'll do it again and the game is silent... third time the sound is delayed a few seconds, and still plays after I turn it off. Entirely cosmetic, but annoying, especially when you can't hear what direction enemy fire is coming from in a heated battle... I have to look down on my radar to find them? No, i should just hear them out of my left/right headphone speaker and be able to react properly.

I will follow this game and see where it goes, but it's pre-alpha quality. Not to bash the developers, because they've done a good job so far, but there are some very glaring playability issues that make it not ready for any sort of semi-competitive play. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, however!

MW5 will be great....if they can solve the legal issues with the Unseen mechs.
Certain mechs (Riflemen, Warhammer, Marauder, to name a few) apparantly share to much of a similarity between an anime show. Macross or something.

So until harmony Gold says, yeah ok, go ahead....we may still get MW5, just without some of the classic MW2 mechs we havent seen in the last decade.

On a side note.....anyone playing WW2 Online at all?
I know Thrawn used to plau....i've been looking at it again..I just wanna play something with you guys heh :P

Played WWIIOnline for a few years many years ago until after the .74 patch when they began patching the game so much to try to make it so photo realistic and added so much eye candy that 75% of their customers could no longer run the game at any type of acceptable framerate so we ended up leaving for other games. It was a great game but as far back as 5 years ago when it would not run well on a (top of the line for then) 2.8 ghz computer with a 256 MB video card it was just a bit too resource hungry for most people's tastes and hardware.

Even now it's minimum specs are a 3.2ghz system with a 256MB card with shader 3 and they recommend a GeForce GTX 250 or Radeon HD 4850 or better in a 3 ghz dual core or 2.66 ghz quad core machine. Not exactly the type of sys req's that the average person's computer can meet, and the hardcore gamer with the latest hardware is in reality the exception rather than the rule. Steam collects data on their gamer customer's hardware and posts them periodically. As of January only 50% of the gamers on Steam have a dual core processor running at up to 2.3-2.6 ghz. The other 50% have slower systems. 60% have a video card with less than 512 MB ram and using shader 2. Most run Windows XP and of those running Vista/7 the average video card is a Geforce 8800. Of those running XP, the majority, the average card is a Geforce 7600 followed by a Radeon 9600. So you can see the odds are high that the average person who plays games does not have the kind of hardware to run WWIIOnline at a decent speed even today.

Cornered Rat has always patched the thing to where the requirements just to run it at more than 10 fps in a city were on the upper fringe of what the average person might own, and hence cut their own throats as far as having a customer base to draw from. This was always the biggest reason why the game was never as popular as something like WoW, even though the gameplay and sheer amount of things a player can do in game beat WoW hands down going back as far as 8 years ago. Between losing many thousands of players who didn't have the hardware to run it anymore, and coming out with a patch once that erased many of their customers hard drives due to faulty patch code, they ended up with only a pale shadow of the amount of players they used to have. Frankly since about 5-6 years ago they have continued a trend of almost patching themselves out of business.

There was a cute pic back then that someone used for selling shirts and mugs, of a penguin in a helmet with the caption 'CRS erased my hard drive and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt'. I still have a copy of that pic somewhere.
